anyone got any tips on how to play chess?

I can play the game ok but still seem to make rash moves! Any tips would be appreciated!

Study tactics (i.e. forks, pins, skewers, etc.). Study endgames. Then study openings.

One thing that I learned from my uncle is, if you are forced to retreat from a position, always retreat, if possible, to a position that causes problems for your opponent.

Playing chess and mastering chess takes some time. Be patient and enjoy each game. Practice and experience will teach you a lot about chess. You can read some books to learn basic moves and strategies. To improve your skills and learn more is that you’ve got to play it with someone who is good at it. ^^

Chess is a wargame based on tactical strategy. The best way to develop good moves and progress is to continually play someone with more experience in the game and watch them carefully thus learning from your peers. Think out every move and plan not merely what is on the board currently but what would unfold through the particular move youare about to make. It is all about forward planning.

    I partly agree with ‘Julie’.
The way I improved was by buying a cheap portable chess game, preferably one with various skill levels, as you beat the first level a few times, move up to the next level.
It’s actually better than playing a fellow opponent, try it out they are not expensive.
And when the box of tricks wins, it doesn’t make you feel like your useless.!!

i haven’t seen u play so i don’t know if what i’m goin to say will help ok….when u start the game don’t move all the pawns at once:move a few and then try moving the knight and some other not SOOO valuable pieces(like the king, queen, and towers).move the pawns tht u need 2 move 2 let the other pieces through if u move all the pawns 1 after another it will b easy for ur opponent 2 "kill" the pawns and get through the barrier, therefore it will leave the king and queen sort of defenceless and none of the other pieces will have moved

I’M not sure if i helped u already because u might already know that, anyway I’M SORRY if it didn’t help!!!!:(

It takes time, practice to get better at chess. But if you still make mistakes, be sure to learn from them. And think ahead of time. Don’t keep attacking forgetting about all your important pieces. I played chess for years, and I play really good, but still make mistakes when I’m not paying attention. And as for advice, make a formation of your own, or take a formation. Let me tell u something. when the queen can go any direction, be careful. Look at the possibilities of its movements and prepare for the fight back. don’t lose concentration, and keep focused to the game. I would suggest using a fork. Its like a deal, let your King live and kill the other piece. And last, pawns. Do u know the ‘ big brother ‘ format? Like when you move a pawn forward 2 steps, and the left and right ones of it only move one step. Then, you got high protection. and the gaps would be covered be the biship. I use to do that format
